Tornado Alley 2004 Chase Trip Day 7 - June 13th, 2004 - Colorado Chase BY MARTIN KUCERA
What a great chase day. If it was not for a high precipitation within every storm we encountered the day would be just perfect. This was the real storm chasing day with several very close lightning strike calls and close to seeing a tornado..

One of many messy, rainy storms in the area early in the afternoon. We got some dime size hail from this one.

The typical eastern Colorado summer storms....we witnessed a brief landspout again before it started raining. Then we moved on to the next, much better looking cell to our east. When the sun hits the golden field there`s quite nothing like it. Too bad you have to go on.
Shortly after we encountered so much rain I don`t even want to write about it. My target area for the day was Lamar, CO and there was a confirmed tornado and baseball size hail near Lamar, also a tornado just south Las Animas, CO. We spent most of the chase in that area but saw no tube. Plenty of close lightning bolts though. Finally we let the storm go and stopped at a local restaurant in the area. Incredible Mammatus clouds formed just minutes later and provided for some amazing rest of the afternoon and a nice sunset.
